One long-term Arsenal transfer target has now opened up about his future amid contract uncertainty with his current club.

Arsenal will now be gearing up for a big summer transfer window.

Not only will Mikel Arteta be clean to clear space in his squad and raise funds by offloading a number of players, he will also be aiming to add some extra quality to his ranks.

The Gunners are known to be on the lookout for a striker. Arsenal are working on a deal for Viktor Gyokeres, but progress towards securing the Sweden international’s signature has stalled somewhat. Arsenal are also eyeing up a new left-back.

However, bringing in a central midfielder to support Declan Rice is now the top priority for Arsenal. Arteta has lots of options to consider in this regard.

One candidate for this vacancy in the middle of the park could come to the Emirates Stadium on a free transfer this summer, and is a player who has previously been pursued by both Arsene Wenger and Unai Emery, during their stints in charge of the North London club.

Arsenal target Adrien Rabiot discusses his future amid contract uncertainty

Arsenal have coveted Adrien Rabiot for some time now. Wenger first wanted to bring the Frenchman to the club in 2015, whilst the player still plied his trade for PSG, as reported by TNT Sports.

In 2019, with Emery still at the helm, the Gunners once again considered launching a move to sign the 29-year-old, as per Sport

Even as recently as within the last week, Arsenal have been linked with a move for Rabiot by Corriere dello Sport.

Arteta could pick up the 46-cap France international on a free transfer, as his current deal with Juventus has expired after a five-year spell in Serie A.

However, whilst he is featuring at Euro 2024 for his nation, Rabiot will not be drawn into a clear answer on what his future holds at club level.

As quoted by TuttoJuve, in the wake of Les Bleus’ win over Belgium, the midfielder said: “Do I still feel like a Juventus player? If I’m not under contract I can’t say I’m a Juventus player.

“For the moment it doesn’t mean anything, only that as I said before I’m focused on the national team, we’ll see what happens. I don’t feel like talking about this right now.

“I think they know that I am focused on the European Championship, my focus is 100% on this. Then I am always in contact with the club, obviously, we will see what happens after the European Championship, something will surely happen.”

Should Arteta finally bring Rabiot to Arsenal this summer?

Rabiot is certainly a very solid and technically secure midfielder. However, it has to be asked if he is the player to take Arsenal to the next level.

There have also been concerns in the past about his attitude and professionalism away from the pitch, which is certainly something that would worry Arteta.

Whilst Rabiot may be available on a free transfer, it is no use bringing him to the club if he is not a neat fit at the Emirates Stadium. What’s more, his wages would also be extremely high.
