Ahead of the January transfer window, journalist Fabrizio Romano has now shared an update on one potential Arsenal target.

Mikel Arteta’s side are enjoying a strong start to the season, however, there’s still the feeling that January additions could be key.

And with that in mind, Fabrizio Romano has now shared an update on Arthur Vermeeren’s future.

Arsenal are said to be interested in Royal Antwerp’s 18-year-old Vermeeren, who starred against Barcelona in the Champions League yesterday.

And with that in mind, Romano shared an update on X.

He said: “Arthur Vermeeren, on fire — goal vs Barça & MOTM Award.

“2005 born talent makes top 10 players with most minutes played in top leagues.

“Understand he’s set to leave in 2024. Possibly January or July for sure.

“His lawyer Sebastien Ledure, speaking to top European clubs.”

A price tag of £20m has been mentioned in the past for clubs interested, which may now be inflated by this latest performance.

Vermeeren has already achieved his first cap for Belgium such is his talent and potential, and competition for his signature is sure to be intense.

Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal target Arthur Vermeeren could leave club in January

Although he isn’t as far along in his career as the likes of a Douglas Luiz, Vermeeren could be a very smart option in January.

Arsenal’s spending is expected to be limited by Financial Fair Play restrictions and therefore the Belgian could be more realistic.

Some incredibly high prices are now being mentioned for Luiz, who does seem unlikely to leave Aston Villa mid-season anyway.

And although Mikel Arteta would surely love to have a player arrive to make an immediate impact at The Emirates, Vermeeren could spring a surprise.

The midfielder showed just how capable he already is with his performance last night.

And Romano does seem to think that the Arsenal target could be available as early as January.

So if Arsenal do make some sales in the near future, including one £60m departure fans are now asking for, there could be some potential movement.
