Fabrizio Romano has now discussed some key details about Arsenal transfer target Jeremie Frimpong.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, as quoted by CaughtOffside, has confirmed that Arsenal target Jeremie Frimpong has a “£34 million release” clause in his contract, and is likely to make a move in the upcoming summer transfer window. The reporter said, “I can confirm that there is a clause, and he’s certainly a player who is greatly admired around Europe after some fantastic performances this season.”
Frimpong currently plies his trade as a right-back for German outfit Bayer Leverkusen. He is a key player for Xabi Alonso’s side, who currently top the Bundesliga table. The 22-year-old has made seventeen appearances across all competitions so far this season, scoring six goals and laying on seven assists for his teammates.
Given the defender’s extraordinary output, it is no surprise that top clubs are taking notice and keeping tabs on him. As well as the Gunners, Bayern Munich and Barcelona have both also shown an interest in the player, as per Romano.
The confirmation of the existence of Frimpong’s release clause also makes him an even more attractive proposition. If he can maintain his fitness and current form, Leverkusen will face an extremely difficult task in trying to retain his services into next season.
As an attack-minded full-back, able to make a tangible impact in the final third, whilst still administering to his defensive duties, Frimpong looks as though he has all the skills and attributes required to thrive in the Premier League.

Do Arsenal need Jeremie Frimpong?
However, there is a question as to whether or not Mikel Arteta needs another right-back added to his squad at the Emirates Stadium. He already has Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Jurrien Timber at his disposal.
Timber’s injury has meant that he cannot yet be fairly judged as an Arsenal player, but both White and Tomiyasu have been reliable and impressive members of Arteta’s squad, and would not be viewed as obvious candidates for replacement.
The Gunners certainly need to focus their recruitment efforts primarily, in the upcoming January transfer window and the summer to come, in other areas of the pitch. Arsenal are currently seeking to bolster their midfield contingent, with the future of Thomas Partey in doubt. The north London club are also on the lookout for an elite-level striker. They may also need to add another goalkeeper in the near future, with Aaron Ramsdale being encouraged to push for an exit having fallen down the pecking order earlier this season.
Frimpong would be an intriguing addition to the Arsenal roster, but is unlikely to be considered a priority at this stage.
