Arsenal have been strongly linked with a move to sign Sandro Tonali in recent months.

Andrea Berta is prioritising three key areas ahead of the summer window, and central midfield is right at the top of that list.

Several names have been mentioned, but Tonali stands out as a player who ticks every box for Mikel Arteta. The Newcastle United star has the physicality, technical ability and experience to thrive in the Premier League.

Now, Arsenal may have just received a significant boost in their pursuit, as the Italian is said to have made a decision on his future.

Sandro Tonali wants to stay in the Premier League and not return to Italy

Arsenal’s interest in Tonali first surfaced on transfer deadline day in the winter window, shortly after Mikel Merino suffered a serious foot injury.

At the time, the Gunners were exploring options to reinforce their midfield, and Tonali quickly emerged as a player of interest.

Nothing happened then, but his name has continued to be linked with a potential move to the Emirates.

There were also suggestions that he could return to Italy, but Fabrizio Romano has now clarified the situation and revealed that Tonali wants to stay in England.

The journalist tweeted: “Sandro Tonali is not planning to return to Italy this summer, despite reports, as he’s ready to stay in the Premier League.

“Tonali is on the top Premier League clubs’ shortlist, and he’s keen on staying in England at the highest level. Movements soon about his future.”

That update will come as a major boost for Arsenal if they decide to push forward with their interest.

Sandro Tonali would solve a major Arsenal problem

Arsenal’s midfield has been one of their biggest strengths this season, but it has also been stretched to its limits.

Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi have had to carry a huge workload, playing almost every game across all competitions. That level of demand inevitably takes its toll over time.

Rice has managed to maintain his standards, but Zubimendi, in his first season, has shown signs of fatigue and a dip in form.

Adding a player like Tonali would allow Arteta to rotate more effectively and manage minutes better.

It is a problem Arsenal need to solve, and Tonali looks like the perfect answer.
