Arsenal’s priority in the summer transfer window is a new striker.

The Gunners have top-class players in almost every position on the pitch, but a prolific number nine has been the missing piece for several years now.

Mikel Arteta pleaded for a new striker in January, but the Arsenal board failed him then. That cannot happen again, and Andrea Berta has been brought in to get the job done.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of forwards ahead of the summer transfer window, and Fabrizio Romano has revealed the latest on one of them.

Fabrizio Romano shares new Viktor Gyokeres’ price tag for Arsenal

Viktor Gyokeres has been the most prolific striker in the world over the last two years.

The Sweden international has scored 96 goals and provided 28 assists for Sporting CP since joining them in the summer of 2023.

Andrea Berta wants to sign Gyokeres for Arsenal this summer, and bringing him in would be more straightforward compared to the likes of Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko.

A release clause of €100 million [£84.4m] is in his contract, but reports have claimed that Arsenal could sign Gyokeres for around £66 million this summer.

Now, Romano has claimed that a fee of just £54.8 million could be enough to convince Sporting to let their star striker go.

The journalist said in a video on his YouTube channel: “Viktor Gyokeres remains a target for Manchester United. There is also Arsenal, for sure, in the race. All the clubs are informed of the possibility for the player to leave for something around €65 million [£54.8m].

“Forget about the €100 million release clause, €65 million can be enough to sign Viktor Gyokeres this summer, thanks to a pact between the player, agents and the club.”

What should Arsenal do with Viktor Gyokeres?

The Gyokeres deal has just become a no-brainer for Arsenal.

Alexander Isak would be the dream, but there’s no way Newcastle will allow him to leave the club this summer. Benjamin Sesko is an option too, but he is nowhere near his prime and will need time to adapt.

Gyokeres, hailed as ‘the best striker in Europe’ by Sporting manager Rui Borges, is the ready-made option for Arsenal, and the fact that he will cost less than what Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did over seven years ago makes this an easy decision.

Andrea Berta should pick up the phone and tell Sporting that Arsenal are ready to pay the required figure for Gyokeres right away.

Wrapping this deal up quickly would be the wise thing to do to avoid competition from the likes of Manchester United.
