Arsenal remain interested in signing Martin Zubimendi.

The Spanish midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League for a long time, and those links have not gone away.

Arsenal have wanted Zubimendi for well over a year, while the Real Sociedad star rejected Liverpool last summer even though the Reds were ready to trigger his release clause. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have liked him for a while too.

The January transfer window opens soon, and Zubimendi will be a wanted man again. Here’s the latest on his future.

Fabrizio Romano shares update on Arsenal’s ‘dream target’ Martin Zubimendi

Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City could all do with reinforcements in the January transfer window.

The Gunners have had a number of injury issues this season – Mikel Arteta hasn’t had a fully fit squad at any point since the start of the campaign.

Liverpool, on the other hand, are flying and have found themselves in an excellent position to win the Premier League. One or two top-quality additions in January could guarantee them the title.

Manchester City, however, are the most desperate of all teams at the moment. They have won just one of their last 12 games in all competitions and are in trouble without Rodri in their midfield.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Zubimendi is a ‘dream target’ for all of the above clubs, but the midfielder has not opened the door to join any of them in January.

The journalist said on the Men in Blazers podcast: “There is a player who is a dream target for all the top clubs around Europe – for Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal and many others – it’s Martin Zubimendi.

“They all want to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. But, the real point is that Zubimendi, at the moment, is still not opening the door for a January exit.

“In the next summer, it could be different, but for January, the situation is still quiet around him. So, I’m not sure it’s going to be possible to go for Zubimendi.”

Enough is enough – Arsenal should make a ruthless Zubimendi decision

Zubimendi has had admirers in the Premier League for a long, long time.

The Spaniard rejected Liverpool last summer, but they aren’t the only ones. Zubimendi has turned down Arsenal as well in the past – he just doesn’t seem interested in a move to England.

Anything can happen in the future, but the fact that Zubimendi has shown no desire to join a club in the Premier League should convince Arsenal and other interested clubs to look elsewhere.

It just feels like all the English clubs are wasting their time chasing Zubimendi, when instead they could focus on bringing in someone else.

In January, Arsenal don’t really need a new midfielder anyway. Their focus has to be on strengthening their attack following Bukayo Saka’s injury.
