The final week of the winter transfer window is here, and Arsenal are still on the lookout for a new striker.
The Gunners have been in need of a prolific number nine for several windows now, and Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus’ injuries have accelerated their search.
Mikel Arteta has publicly demanded a new striker, and the Arsenal board are working very hard behind the scenes to get a new man in before the window shuts.
Fabrizio Romano has now shared a very big update.
Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal called to enquire about Jhon Duran
Aston Villa star Jhon Duran has been a revelation over the last few months.
The Colombian only joined Unai Emery’s side in January 2023, but his stock has shot up thanks to his performances this season.
Duran is of interest to many clubs. West Ham had a huge bid rejected for him in this window, while Saudi Arabian giants Al-Nassr are keen to sign him as well.
However, in what is big news, Romano has claimed that Arsenal contacted Duran’s agents too to enquire about a potential deal this month.
However, no bid has been lodged and there have been no direct talks with Aston Villa just yet.
Romano said in a video on his YouTube channel: “For Jhon Duran, let me tell you something. West Ham had a bid rejected. Interest from several clubs around Europe.
“What I’m told is also Arsenal made a call in recent weeks to understand the situation of John Duran because Sesko, at the moment, no green light from Leipzig. Also, Alexander Isak, the dream target of Arsenal, super expensive, very complicated – impossible is nothing in football, but very complicated.
“So in the recent weeks, Arsenal also called to understand the situation of Jhon Duran, but no bid, no direct negotiations with Aston Villa.
“Al-Nassr want Jhon Duran, but Aston Villa insist on their position, they want to keep the player at the club. So, let’s see what’s going to happen and if maybe a crazy proposal can change their position for Jhon Duran.”
Jhon Duran’s stats compared to every Arsenal forward
Duran is a phenomenal talent.
The Aston Villa star turned 21 just last month, and he has taken the Premier League by storm. His numbers for Villa this season have been really impressive, especially when compared to Arsenal’s attackers.
| Games | Goals | Minutes per goal | |
| Jhon Duran | 29 | 12 | 87 |
| Kai Havertz | 31 | 14 | 184 |
| Leandro Trossard | 33 | 5 | 377 |
| Gabriel Martinelli | 32 | 7 | 321 |
| Raheem Sterling | 15 | 1 | 633 |
| Gabriel Jesus | 27 | 7 | 172 |
| Bukayo Saka | 24 | 9 | 203 |
As the table shows above, Duran’s minutes-per-goal ratio is significantly higher than every Arsenal attacker this season. He is also younger than all the others on the list.
It will be very difficult to sign Duran this month, but if Arsenal can find a way, they’ll have a fantastic striker for the better part of the next decade.
