Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio spoke on the Calcio Mercato podcast about rumours linking Arsenal star Granit Xhaka with a move to AS Roma.

The Swiss international has been heavily linked with a move to the Serie A this month. Multiple rumours claimed last week that a deal would be completed before the start of the Euros, but Roma couldn’t get it done.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

The Giallorossi tried to bring the price down and Arsenal refused to budge. That stalled negotiations and it seemed like Xhaka’s future will remain in the air until the end of Switzerland’s Euro 2020 campaign.

However, Di Marzio has revealed that a deal isn’t as far away as what has been reported. He claims that the transfer is very close to being completed and Xhaka’s just one step away from leaving Arsenal.

He said: “(Granit) Xhaka and (Rui) Patricio operations are almost at the finish line. We are almost there!”

Arsenal need to replace Granit Xhaka immediately

Xhaka, labelled as an ‘extraordinary player‘ by Unai Emery, will be a huge loss for Arsenal. Yes, he has had his fair share of problems at the Emirates, but he was integral to the way we played, and we need to bring in someone who can do just as good a job as the Swiss man, if not better.

The Gunners have been linked with multiple names already. Ruben Neves and Yves Bissouma are two players who are reportedly on Mikel Arteta’s wish list, and either midfielder would be a sensational signing for Arsenal.

The new Premier League season is set to begin in less than two months and Arsenal need to be ready. We face Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham in our first six games, which means that our new signings will have no time to settle in.

Neves and Bissouma both know the Premier League very well already. That is a bonus for Arsenal if we are to sign either one of them, but the more we delay getting the deals over the line, the less time they will have to adapt to the way we play. That could cost us at the start of next season.
