Arsenal are preparing for change on the transfer front, not only regarding those on the pitch.

Edu Gaspar shocked everyone when he resigned from his role as sporting director at the Emirates.

The Brazilian left Mikel Arteta’s project in search of a new challenge, giving Arsenal a void to fill as the hunt for a new sporting director is underway.

With the January transfer window fast approaching, it’s hoped that Edu’s successor can deliver what fans want so dearly, an established number nine.

Arsenal transfer news: Jonathan David targeted

While Arteta has found success in utilising Kai Havertz in the advanced role, Arsenal are still without a clinical and reliable goalscoring presence.

Such woes could end in January as per reports from Corriere dello Sport, who recently documented Juventus’ interest in LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David.

The report mentions Arsenal and Liverpool as also being clubs who have made ‘enquiries’ about the forward, who could be available for as low as €20m (£16m) in January.

David has already netted 13 goals in all competitions for Lille this season which is bound to have caught the Gunners’ eye.

As well as his numbers, Arsenal will have added incentive to sign the Canadian, who is a player rated very highly by Thierry Henry.

Back in 2022, Henry praised David’s ‘directness’ on CBS Sports, pinpointing some of the striker’s strong points – all of which would bolster Arteta’s options.

“When you have a player like Jonathan David, who runs the way he does, in behind, his directness.

“If he sees the centre-back dropping, then he will go in behind. But as soon as he sees there is a gap, he will run and he is also pretty strong too and he loves contacts.”

How Liverpool star Darwin Nunez could assist Arsenal

The Italian report not only documents Arsenal’s interest in the Ligue 1 talisman, but also Liverpool’s, focusing on the two clubs’ reasoning for eyeing David.

It’s claimed that the Gunners aren’t satisfied with Gabriel Jesus, with Liverpool said to have a similar stance with their forward, Darwin Nunez.

What is encouraging for Arsenal is that Arne Slot is currently enjoying Nunez’s presence, with the erratic Uruguayan finding form and earning consistent minutes.

Should Nunez be able to turn his Liverpool future around, Arteta could have a stronger chance at capturing David, who in fine form and with a low price tag, could be a smart acquisition.
