Arsenal have now made a firm decision on whether or not to chase a deal for Marc Guehi after hearing Crystal Palace’s demands.
Arsenal are clearly keen to add to their defensive ranks in this summer transfer window.
Riccardo Calafiori is edging towards a deal to join Arsenal, but that move is being held up by wrangling between Bologna and Basel over the player’s sell-on clause, and the Gunners are yet to agree a fee with the Italian club too.
It could be the case that Mikel Arteta is considering alternative targets in case the move for Calafiori collapses, or it could even be the case that he wishes to add more than one new face to his defensive contingent.
It is easy to see why the Spanish coach admires Marc Guehi. The 24-year-old was a bright spark for England at Euro 2024, and has been consistently impressive for Crystal Palace for some time, standing out due to his composure, physicality, quality on the ball, and ability to read the game.
However, the Eagles are reluctant to let the centre-back go, and have made their position on his future clear.

Crystal Palace put £70 million price tag on Arsenal transfer target Marc Guehi
As reported by The Mirror, Crystal Palace have taken measures to ward off potential suitors for Guehi, including the Gunners, by setting a £70 million asking price for the England man.
Due to this, Arsenal have now decided to give up on trying to prise the player away from Selhurst Park this summer.
If Arteta is looking to bring in another defender beyond Calafiori, then he will have to pivot to another target.
The Gunners will still be keeping tabs on Guehi though, as it seems likely that, if he continues in the same vein of form he has produced in recent seasons, then he will be keen to move on from Crystal Palace at some stage.
Therefore, he is likely to remain a player that Arsenal view as a long-term potential target. If the time comes that the Gunners do decide to pursue Guehi, though, then it is clear that they will have to pay a significant fee to secure his services.
