Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has told the Gunners to scout Andre Trindade in recent weeks amid Tottenham Hotspur showing an interest in the Fluminense gem’s transfer.

That is according to talkSPORT, which claims that Tottenham have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Andre in January. The 22-year-old is set to leave Fluminense in the next market as he targets a switch to Europe. An array of top Premier League clubs are also pondering swoops.

Andre has sparked vast interest amongst the English top-flight after helping Fluminense win the Copa Libertadores. The Tricolor product is an essential part of the team at the Maracana and played 13 times in the tournament. He has played 55 times in all competitions this year.

Tottenham join Arsenal with an interest in Andre’s transfer

Tottenham are the latest Premier League club to show an interest in securing a transfer with Fluminense for Andre. Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou would also sanction a mid-season sale for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg if his north London outfit win the race for the two-cap Brazil talent.

But they may have to beat Liverpool, who remain interested in Andre as Jurgen Klopp chases a true Fabinho replacement. Manchester United have also identified the Algodao native as a replacement for Casemiro at Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag is scrutinising the Brazilian’s future.

Arsenal are a threat for Tottenham, too, as Arteta has sent the Gunners scouts to Brazil over recent weeks. The Spaniard has urged his Emirates Stadium outfit to keep close tabs on him. Globo also reported recently that Arsenal scouted Andre during the Copa Libertadores final.

Fluminense have admitted Andre could leave in January

Additionally, Football Transfers has noted recently that Manchester United have spoken with Fluminense about Andre’s transfer. It further suggested that Fulham are a firm contender for a deal. Liverpool are also holding back after hearing the Tricolor want €30-40m (£26-35m).

Klopp has alternative targets in mind who could fill the void left by Fabinho’s switch to Saudi Arabia. But even without Liverpool in the mix, Arsenal and Tottenham face vast competition for Andre’s transfer after Fluminense’s president, Mario Bittencourt, admitted he may leave.

“We are waiting,” Bittencourt recently said, via Globo. “Today, there is no concrete proposal for Andre. But we are sure that after the [Club] World Cup – he will play in the World Cup – a stratospheric proposal will arrive. It could be the biggest sale in the club’s history.”
