‘More likely’ outcome of Thomas Partey contract talks emerges as Arsenal make key decision

Thomas Partey’s future at Arsenal is unclear as the midfielder is moving closer to the end of his contract.

At the moment, Partey will become a free agent in the summer as Arsenal have not offered the Ghanaian an extension. 

While sources understand that Arsenal would be open to keeping Partey if the player agreed to a pay cut, there remains no clarity over his next steps.

Outside indicators suggest that the midfielder will leave given that Arsenal are hopeful of signing Martin Zubimendi, a player whose profile would provide an upgrade on the former Atletico Madrid man.

Arsenal exit for Thomas Partey ‘likely’

The summer transfer window is fast approaching, as is the possible end of Partey’s time in North London. 

Two Arsenal regulars are out of contract in 2025, with Partey and Jorginho linked with exits having not been offered a new deal.

While the future seems no clearer with regard to the Ghana international’s steps beyond the Emirates, some clarity has been shed on whether he will leave the club. 

Journalist Charles Watts shared an update on Partey’s contract situation, stating that the player leaving looks ‘more and more likely’, with no talks of a new deal reported. 

Watts added that there is ‘strong interest’ from European clubs and that the Gunners ‘will not push’ to keep Partey at the club beyond the summer.

The Arsenal reporter mentioned a return to Spain being the player’s wish, stating that Barcelona are the ‘frontrunners’ to obtain the 31-year-old’s signature if he is to leave North London.

Mikel Arteta is already planning a new midfield

Arguably the most obvious indication that Partey is leaving is that Mikel Arteta is already thinking about how his midfield will look next season. 

Arsenal are confident of landing Zubimendi, who will be the holding support for Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard. 

Such leaves no room for Partey and Jorginho, which is something Watts touched upon, stating that Arteta is expected to ‘refresh’ his midfield with both players ‘set to leave’.

It’s an exciting time for Arsenal heading into the summer window as a much-needed revamp in the squad is set to happen, with the Gunners preparing to bid farewell to Partey.
