Myles Lewis-Skelly has no issues with his current game time at Arsenal and understands that consistent minutes last season were unexpected.
The defender has made just one Premier League start this season, and that was only due to Riccardo Calafiori pulling out of the warm-up ahead of Brighton.
Which Arsenal left-back will go on to have the most successful career?
Calafiori or Lewis-Skelly…
Last season, the teenager looked to have the left-back spot on lock; however, the Italian defender has now firmly taken his place in the team.
Despite his current lack of consistent minutes and being out of the starting 11, the 18-year-old is remaining very level-headed and is calm about the situation.
Myles Lewis-Skelly remains calm over Arsenal minutes
Myles Lewis-Skelly is still expecting to get plenty of chances at Arsenal this season, despite Calafiori now being the clear first choice at left-back, according to Sam Matterface.
Arsenal have decided that Lewis-Skelly is going nowhere in January, which is certainly the correct decision considering the team’s current misfortune with defensive injuries.
The defender will be hoping to go to the World Cup next summer, but Thomas Tuchel warned Lewis-Skelly he needs to play more for Arsenal to be considered.
Despite this warning, Matterface told TalkSPORT: “Myles is quite relaxed about the whole situation, from what I understand. He is very level-headed about it. He understood that last season was very unexpected that he got so much game time.
If Myles Lewis-Skelly could only play in one position for the rest of his career, would you have him at left-back or in midfield?
What's his best position?
“Obviously, Calafiori picked up an injury. Calafiori picked up an injury on the weekend during the warm-up and pulled out. So he may well get an opportunity to play in the team, especially with the problems they have.”
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta is excited to help Lewis-Skelly develop as a player, along with Max Dowman and Ethan Nwaneri.
Ethan Nwaneri could be allowed to leave Arsenal on loan
It appears to be a different situation for Nwaneri, who could well be allowed to leave on loan in January, as per Alex Crook.
The Gunners have no desire to sell him, although a loan deal now seems to be on the cards: “Well, he certainly won’t be short of suitors, maybe even Bournemouth as a potential Semenyo replacement.”
When asked whether it would be a loan, Crook added: “Yeah, I don’t see Arsenal selling him. They very much see him as one for the future.
“But there is so much competition, you look at their squad now, even when they are injury-ravaged, him and Lewis-Skelly are struggling to get game time in the Premier League.
“Both of them aspire to go and play. I don’t think they’ll let Lewis-Skelly go, which might hamper his chances of making that World Cup squad. But maybe Nwaneri is one to keep an eye on.”
