Arsenal fans can expect to see the North London club linked with a host of players as the January transfer window draws ever nearer.

The Gunners will certainly be assessing their options ahead of the winter market, and recruitment staff will be presenting potential targets for Mikel Arteta to consider.

The Spanish coach will recognise the need to bolster his squad in January. Arsenal have been urged to sign an attacker, and for good reason.

Arsenal have struggled for goals in recent weeks, and now find their Premier League title hopes hanging by a thread. Arteta’s side must improve in the final third if they are to have any hope of being crowned champions this season.

What Arsenal legend Paul Merson said about Christian Pulisic

Arsenal have now been linked with Christian Pulisic. However, Ruben Anorim is keen to make the AC Milan ace his first signing as Manchester United manager. The Gunners will therefore likely face stiff competition for his signature.

Paul Merson would likely tell his former club to go all out in pursuit of the USA international’s services, though.

The Arsenal legend has been a fan of Pulisic for some time. He heaped praise on the attacking-midfielder back in October 2019, whilst he still plied his trade for Chelsea.

As quoted by Sky Sports, Merson said: “I like Pulisic, who scored a hat-trick in the 4-2 win against Burnley, and I’ve always been a big fan of his. I think he’s a top player, but he’s only a kid. He’s 21 and you’re not going to hit your best football until you’re 27 or 28, I wouldn’t have thought.”

Should Arsenal sign Christian Pulisic?

Pulisic was never able to consistently impress in his time at Chelsea, but that hasn’t put Arteta off players in the past. He brought all of Kai Havertz, Willian, and Raheem Sterling to the Emirates Stadium from Stamford Bridge, with varying results.

Since signing for AC Milan, though, the 26-year-old has gone to a whole new level. Merson predicted that Pulisic would hit new heights around this stage of his career, and the American has delivered on that forecast.

He signed for the Italian giants in the summer of 2023. Since then, in 65 appearances across all competitions, he has racked up 22 goals and 16 assists. If he could replicate that kind of output in North London, then he would represent an excellent addition to the Arsenal squad.

However, Arteta ought to have some reservations about signing Pulisic. After all, he has failed to flourish in the Premier League before, and Manchester United’s interest could drive AC Milan’s asking price up.

On top of that, Arsenal have been told to sign a striker. Pulisic does not fit the bill in that regard. A prolific goalscorer capable of competing with Havertz for the right to lead the line ought to be at the top of Arteta’s shopping list.
