Arsenal are now closing in on the signing of Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori, and they have now been linked with one of his teammates.
Calafiori’s arrival is set to be confirmed in the coming days, with the defender flying to London for a medical before joining Mikel Arteta’s squad on their pre-season tour in the USA.
The 22-year-old shone in an otherwise disappointing Italy team at Euro 2024, with the holders crashing out in the last-16.
When Italy won Euro 2020, Arsenal midfielder Jorginho was outstanding, as was Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, who has now been linked with a move to the Emirates.
Arsenal icon Paul Merson has now praised Arteta for the work he has done in this transfer window, and hinted that Chiesa is a player the Gunners should pursue.

Taking to X, Merson praised Arteta for the signing of Calafiori, and expressed his excitement about his impending arrival.
“Calafori to Arsenal would be a brilliant signing and now talks of Chiesa… Arteta doing well so far in the transfer market,” he posted.
Chiesa looks set to depart Juventus this summer with just one year remaining on his deal, and it was reported that Arsenal could battle Liverpool for his signature.
Federico Chiesa could be smart addition for Arsenal

Chiesa suffered from a big injury shortly after starring at the Euros, and he found his way back to full fitness last season.
He scored 10 goals in a Juventus team which struggled in attack, but the 26-year-old will now benefit from a fresh start elsewhere.
The Italian was a world-class talent at his best, and can play anywhere across the front line, bringing the speed and goal threat which Arsenal are somewhat lacking within the squad.
Given his contract situation, Arsenal could land themselves a bargain if they push for Chiesa to follow Calafiori from Serie A to North London, and he could prove to be an excellent option given his quality and experience.
