Premier League clubs are now seriously looking at signing £40m player from Arsenal

Gabriel Jesus has not been Arsenal’s first-choice striker for some time.

With Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz ahead of him in the pecking order, the Brazilian has slipped to third choice, possibly even fourth behind Mikel Merino.

At 29 years old and on £265,000 a week, that is becoming increasingly difficult to justify.

Arsenal are ready to sell for around £20million, though getting that fee for a player of his age, injury record and contract situation may prove challenging.

Jesus himself has not closed the door on staying, but he has made his interest in Serie A clear.

Now, a new update has emerged that changes the picture slightly.

Premier League clubs entering the race for Gabriel Jesus

Speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, transfer journalist Matteo Moretto was asked whether Gabriel Jesus could be a name to watch for Italian clubs this summer.

“Be careful, because this is a player that Arsenal certainly won’t force out,” Moretto said. “However, Arsenal are looking for a permanent transfer if he does leave.

“His salary is undoubtedly very high, but a number of Italian clubs have started sounding out the financial details of a deal.

“He’s also attracting interest from English clubs, as well as from a Brazilian club. So there are several developments surrounding him.

“He’s definitely a player I’d keep a very close eye on during this summer’s transfer window.”

Who those English clubs are, exactly, is unclear, but Everton have shown loose interest previously.

Fulham could also be an intriguing destination. The Cottagers need quality and experience up front having lost Raul Jimenez, and it would allow Jesus to remain in London.

Arsenal need to move on from Gabriel Jesus

Andrea Berta will be keen to remove £265,000 a week from the wage bill for a player who has contributed so little in recent seasons.

Jesus is Arsenal’s second-highest earner behind Havertz — an extraordinary outlay for a fringe player.

Getting £20million for him feels optimistic given the circumstances, but getting anything meaningful would free up both funds and squad space before Arsenal even start to think about bringing in someone like Julian Alvarez.

The interest is building, and this is one Arsenal definitely should not let drag into September.
