Arsenal could get a free run at Dominic Solanke after Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe ruled out a move to sign him this month.

The Bournemouth striker has become a wanted man after a brilliant first half of the season. Along with Tottenham and Newcastle, Arsenal have been credited with an interest in Solanke, and we could be the only ones in the race to sign him now.

Eddie Howe rules out Newcastle move for Arsenal target Dominic Solanke

We’re 12 days into the January transfer window, and there is no sign of any movement at Arsenal.

That is really frustrating when you think about the fact that we’ve won just one of our last seven games in all competitions. The biggest issue in all of those games has been scoring goals.

Almost every Arsenal fan feels a new striker is a necessity in this window, and Bournemouth star Dominic Solanke has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates.

Tottenham Hotspur were said to be keen to sign him as well, but they’ve now brought in Timo Werner on loan until the end of the season. Newcastle United were also linked, but Eddie Howe has now confirmed that his side cannot sign Solanke this month.

He said in his press conference today: “I love Solanke. I signed him for Bournemouth & rate him very highly.

“But, we have not made an enquiry for him and we don’t have the ability to sign a player of that level.”

Arsenal could be favourites but move is still unlikely

Tottenham don’t need a new striker this month following Timo Werner’s arrival, while Newcastle United are in no position to sign Dominic Solanke.

That should make Arsenal the favourites to sign him, but we’re not in a position to spend big money either after splashing over £200 million last summer.

Solanke is valued by Bournemouth at £50 million, which is considerably cheaper than what Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen will cost, but it’s still a lot of money.

Arsenal being the only club in the race is good news, but we really don’t think this move will go through this month.
