Fabrizio Romano revealed last night that Arsenal are in direct contact with the agents of Benfica star Nuno Tavares ahead of a potential move in the coming days.

The Gunners announced that Kieran Tierney had signed a new long-term contract at Arsenal last week. He will remain our undisputed first-choice left-back as long as he’s fit, but Arsenal have no natural backup.

Romano: Nuno Tavares prioritising Arsenal move

A new left full-back has to be a priority this summer and Taveres is allegedly the player we’re looking at. Romano claims that we are in direct contact with his agents, and the youngster is very affordable as well.

€15 million (£12.8m) is not a big fee at all, but Tavares could actually be available for a lot less. Portuguese outlet A Bola have shed some more light on a potential transfer, and if they are to be believed, a deal is imminent.

The report claims that Benfica are in transfer negotiations with an unnamed English club for Tavares. They reveal that the 21-year-old has a £75.5 million release clause, but the defender is set to be sold by Benfica for as little as £6.8 million very soon.

That would be an absolute bargain for a player of Tavares’ quality, but can Edu get this over the line? We’ll have to wait and see.

Should Arsenal sign Nuno Tavares?

Arsenal definitely need a new left-back this summer and someone who can learn and develop under Tierney would be ideal. Tavares fits that role perfectly, and he has all the qualities to become a top player.

The 21-year-old, according to football agent Cesar Boaventura, is ‘one of the fastest players in the whole Portuguese league’. He also tipped Tavares to ‘become one of the best in Europe’ in a couple of years time, and that sort of potential is exactly what Arsenal should be looking at. (TalkSport)

With A Bola claiming that he is set to be sold for just £6.8 million, Arsenal cannot possibly go wrong with this transfer, and the fact that he wants to join us as well is a big bonus.
