According to a report from CNN Turk, Turkish giants Fenerbahce are interested in signing Arsenal defender Cedric Soares this summer.

The Portuguese international joined us on a free transfer last year after an initial six-month loan spell at the Emirates. He has only played 29 games for us in all competitions and has mostly been a backup to Hector Bellerin.

The Spaniard is set to leave Arsenal this summer after 10 years in North London. The Gunners have been linked with plenty of right-backs over the last few weeks, which has put Cedric’s future in doubt. That is probably why Fenerbahce are keen to bring him in.

Fenerbahce want Cedric Soares to follow Mesut Ozil’s footsteps

Mesut Ozil switched the Emirates for the Yellow and Black side of Istanbul in the January transfer window. The German seems to be enjoying his time in Turkey, and Fenerbahce believe they can tempt Cedric to move as well.

The report claims that the 29-year-old is also considering his options this summer as he isn’t a regular under Arteta.

Fenerbahce are reportedly convinced that Arsenal will let him leave for just £5.1 million. However, they are set to offer £1.7 million for an initial loan deal with an obligation clause inserted in the contract to sign him permanently next year.

Cedric wants to stay at Arsenal

Football London revealed earlier this week that Cedric has really impressed Arteta in pre-season. The Arsenal boss is even keen to hand the Portuguese international a start against Brentford in our Premier League opener next month.

That makes the report from CNN Turk really hard to believe. Although Cedric is expected by many to be behind Calum Chambers in the pecking order, he could well play a big part next season, especially if we don’t sign a new right-back.

Chris Wheatley, Arsenal’s correspondent at Football London, put the rumours to bed on Twitter today. He revealed that Cedric is determined to stay and fight for his place at the Emirates – that should end all the speculation.
