According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has cooled his interest in Barcelona’s Brazilian goalkeeper Neto.

The same outlet revealed last week that the Gunners manager is a huge fan of the 32-year-old. The report went on to claim that Arteta even believes that Neto is better with the ball at his feet than Bernd Leno, which surprised a few people.

Arsenal have been linked with the Brazilian for over six months now and there is enough evidence to believe that there was genuine interest. However, it looks like Edu and Arteta have changed their mind now.

Arsenal cool interest in Neto

Barcelona are desperate to get rid of a number of players, and Neto is one of them. The Brazilian, labelled as ‘brilliant‘ by Marcelino, has no interest in staying either, which makes this a brilliant opportunity for interested clubs to make their moves.

However, if the report is to be believed, Arsenal will not pursue this deal any longer. The interest in Neto has cooled, but that doesn’t mean that the Gunners have stopped looking for a new goalkeeper.

Leno’s future is uncertain at the moment and he may have to be replaced. Even if the German stays, we need to bring in a new number two to compete with him, and it looks like Edu is set to fully focus on his top goalkeeper target now.

Aaron Ramsdale is Arsenal’s number one target

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Ramsdale for a few weeks now. The Guardian revealed that we’ve had two bids rejected by Sheffield United already, but Edu hasn’t given up just yet.

The report claimed that Arsenal are expected to go back in with a third offer for Ramsdale, who is Arteta’s number one target. However, the Blades are not making it easy for us at the moment.

It was claimed that their asking price is £30m including add-ons. That is a lot of money for a goalkeeper who has been relegated from the Premier League in each of his last two seasons. However, Arteta and Edu clearly see something in him that we don’t, and there’s a good chance that this deal will be completed in the coming weeks.
