According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal have been quoted a fee of just £12 million for Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence.

The 21-year-old is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest and was one of the best players on the pitch when The Reds beat us at the City Ground earlier this month.

Sky Sports revealed a few days after the game that Arsenal, Tottenham and Leeds United were all keen to sign the full-back, who still has 18 months left on his Boro contract.

Arsenal can sign Djed Spence for just £12m

The report from the Standard claims that Arsenal and Tottenham are set to go head to head to sign Spence, who is attracting a lot of interest following his brilliant performances.

The 21-year-old has played 23 times in all competitions this season and he has been excellent. His performance against us in the FA Cup was probably his best yet, and he certainly seems to have caught Mikel Arteta’s eye.

The report claims that Boro are set to demand up to £12 million for Spence this month. However, the full-back, labelled as ‘combative, technical and swashbuckling‘ by Arsenal legend Ian Wright, will only be able to move in the summer as he has already played for two clubs this season.

How good was Spence against the Gunners?

Forest shocked the Gunners in the FA Cup third round earlier this month. Arsenal were the favourites to go through, but Spence and co played really well and deservedly knocked us out of the competition.

The 21-year-old, in his 90 minutes on the pitch, had 64 touches of the ball and won 10 duels. He also attempted five take-ons and completed four of them, which is a brilliant return. (Squawka)

Spence also registered four interceptions, four clearances, won two tackles, four fouls and even ended up creating a goalscoring chance. He wasn’t dribbled past once in the entire game, which shows just how good he was. (Squawka)

It is no surprise that Arsenal are interested in him and at just £12 million, he could prove to be a fantastic backup to Takehiro Tomiyasu next season.
