French outlet Le10 Sport revealed almost two months ago that Arsenal are seriously considering a move for Rennes wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga this summer.
The Frenchman burst onto the scene a couple of years ago as a 16-year-old and stunned the world with his quality. He is arguably the best midfielder of his age in the world at the moment, and it is almost a guarantee that he will leave Rennes this summer.
Camavinga has entered the final year of his contract. He has reportedly made it clear that he will not be extending his deal and Rennes will have to sell him before this transfer window shuts to avoid losing him for nothing next year.
The report claimed back in May that Rennes will still hold out for £43 million to part ways with their star teenager. That stance, however, seems to have changed now, and Arsenal could potentially sign him for a bargain fee.
Arsenal target Camavinga could now be available for £25m
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed on The Guardian this morning that Rennes are open to selling Camavinga for €30 million (£25.7m). That is an absolute bargain for a player of his quality, but it’s not all good news for Arsenal.
The report claims that Camavinga is wanted by a number of top clubs this summer, most notably Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain. The Red Devils are reportedly making progress in negotiations, and it looks like they are leading the race to sign him.
Arsenal desperately need a new central midfielder this summer and Mikel Arteta has already shown that he isn’t afraid to give regular chances to kids if they’re good enough. That could help us if we make an offer for him, but it still seems unlikely.
Paul Pogba could lure Camavinga to Old Trafford
When he burst onto the scene in France a couple of years ago, Camavinga impressed many people, including Manchester United star Paul Poga. The French World Cup winner raved about the teenager last year and he even compared the Rennes sensation to himself.
Poga said last year, as per GFFN: “His future is in his hands. He’s very at ease, he is a little dancer. He makes me think a bit about me. He is not a timid person. It is good, because he is confident. He has confidence in his qualities. He is a very good youngster, I like him enormously.”
If Manchester United really are keen, Poga could lure ‘the new Pogba’ to Old Trafford quite comfortably. That would be a blow for Arsenal, but a promise of regular game time could still do the trick this summer if we act fast.
