Five days ago, Arsenal Insider covered a report from The Mail that claimed that the Gunners and Sevilla are interested in signing Porto star Jesus Corona.

The Mexican has had a couple of good seasons in Portugal and he is a wanted man this summer.

Corona is naturally a right-winger and Arsenal’s interest didn’t make a lot of sense at first. However, the 28-year-old’s numbers as a right-back are excellent, and Arteta probably views him as a potential replacement for Hector Bellerin. (Read more)

The Porto star has a clause in his contract that makes him available for £21.5 million this summer. That is very affordable for Arsenal, but it looks like Corona doesn’t really fancy a move to North London.

Jesus Corona wants prefers Sevilla over Arsenal

Spanish outlet ABC have claimed today that Arsenal have held talks with Corona’s agent Matias Burgue about a possible move this summer. However, the report claims that the Mexican would much rather join Sevilla.

Los Nervionenses are currently managed by Julen Lopetegui, the same man who was at the helm at Porto for 18 months between 2014 and 2016. Corona played under the current Sevilla boss then, and the report claims that he wants to reunite with his former manager this summer.

That hurts Arsenal’s chances of signing him this summer, but it could well prove to be a blessing in disguise.

The Insider’s View:

Corona has been an excellent player for Porto over the years. His numbers over the last three seasons have been truly exceptional, and the fact that he can play in four or five different positions is a fantastic trait to have as well.

However, Corona is 28 already and he hasn’t played a single game in any of Europe’s top-five leagues yet. He’s one of the best players in Liga NOS, but the Premier League is a completely different ball game, and Arsenal should think about that very carefully if we really are interested.

There are plenty of other options on the market and they will all be available for around the same fee. Edu should focus on them instead of Corona, who can go and have his fun at Sevilla in the coming weeks.
