Arsenal have revived their interest in Olympique Lyonnais star Bruno Guimaraes, according to a report from Goal.

The Gunners are on the market looking for a new central midfielder. Granit Xhaka is set to leave the Emirates this summer, as is Lucas Torreira. Joe Willock and Ainsley Maitland-Niles could head out of the door as well, which will leave a huge void in the middle of our park.

Arsenal have been linked with a whole host of players already, but reports have made us believe that Sassuolo star Manuel Locatelli is our number one target. However, a move for the Italian looks extremely unlikely at this point.

Arsenal identify Bruno Guimaraes as an alternative to Manuel Locatelli

The report claims that Locatelli, who is desperate to join Juventus, has turned down a move to Arsenal. As a result, the Gunners have turned their attention to Guimaraes, who is an excellent midfielder in his own right.

The Brazilian has played 46 times for Lyon since joining them in January 2020, and he has been a real star for them. He has impressed everybody in France over the last 18 months, but Les Gones could be prepared to sell him this summer due to their financial problems.

The report claims that Lyon are ready to let Guimaraes leave if an offer in excess of £30 million arrives. That is an affordable fee for the Gunners in this summer’s transfer window, and it won’t be a surprise to see us make a move for him in the coming days.

Edu wanted Guimaraes last year

Back in January 2020, Guimaraes was a wanted man. He was heavily linked with a move to Europe and Arsenal were leading the race to sign him at one point – mainly because of Edu’s interest in him.

However, Lyon jumped ahead of us and secured a move for the talented Brazilian. Edu has reportedly continued to keep an eye on Guimaraes, and that could potentially help us get him this summer.

The 23-year-old is currently away on international duty with Brazil at the Olympics. He has played every game for the Verde-Amarela so far, and was absolutely fantastic against Germany in their opening fixture.

If a move is to happen this summer, it will only be possible once he’s back from the Olympics. That could take a while, but Guimaraes is worth the wait, and he would be a fantastic signing for us if Edu can get it done.
