Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Celtic star Odsonne Edouard for a couple of years now.
Alexandre Lacazette has always had his critics. The former Lyon man was linked with a move away in each of the last two transfer windows, with Atletico Madrid rumoured to be the most interested side.
A move didn’t materialise then but Lacazette’s future is up in the air now. The Frenchman has been in tremendous form recently but he has entered the final 18 months of his contract, and Arsenal have to make a tough decision this summer.
Extending Laca’s deal would mean paying him a lot of money. That isn’t a wise move as the Frenchman will turn 30 in May. We have plenty of older players on ridiculous wages in the squad already, and moving them on is proving to be extremely difficult.
Arsenal will be better off signing a younger striker who has the potential to lead our line for years to come. Edouard certainly fits that bill, and if a report is to be believed, he is pushing for a move to England.
The Scottish Sun claim today that the 11-goal Celtic star has changed agents to find a new club this summer. Edouard is now represented by Stellar Group, who also represent Arsenal star Kieran Tierney. The Scotsman left the Hoops to join is 18 months ago, and his former teammate probably wants to do the same.
Can Arsenal sign Edouard in the summer?
If Arsenal decide to sell Lacazette, we will need a new striker. Edouard, still only 22, has all the qualities to succeed at the top-level, and he would certainly be a stunning signing.
Labelled as ‘brilliant’ by Tierney and ‘special’ by Celtic boss Neil Lennon, Edouard will have time to settle in. He can learn a lot from Aubameyang and once the Gabon star leaves, he can lead the line himself.
Arsenal have dealt with Edouard’s new agents during our negotiations for Tierney. That relationship could help us secure a deal for the striker this month, but Celtic will not make it easy.
