Report: Arsenal now want Champions League winner who idolises Thierry Henry

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal have now joined the race to sign Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham this summer.

The Gunners are on the market looking to strengthen various positions and a centre-forward is on Mikel Arteta’s wish list. However, signing a new player up front is not as straightforward as some of the other positions that we need to fill.

Arsenal signing a new number nine this summer completely depends on Alexandre Lacazette. The Frenchman still has one year left on his contract and if rumours are to be believed, Edu is ‘very aggressively’ trying to sell him. (Read here)

However, the Gunners are struggling to find a buyer for the former Lyon man at the moment. That could potentially change in the coming weeks, and if it does, Arsenal will reportedly target Abraham, who won the Champions League with Chelsea just under seven weeks ago.

The Englishman was a regular when Frank Lampard was at the helm but he has fallen down the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel. The Blues boss prefers Timo Werner and Kai Havertz over him, and if reports are to be believed, they’re trying to sign Erling Haaland as well this summer.

That opens the door for Abraham to walk out, but Chelsea are demanding a staggering £40 million for him. That is a lot of money for someone who started just 12 league games last season, but if Arsenal really want him, we’ll have to splash the cash.

Tammy Abraham is an Arsenal fan

Abraham admitted in an interview with The Bristol Post in 2017 that he grew up as an Arsenal fan. He revealed that he idolised Thierry Henry as a kid and hoped that he would reach the legendary Frenchman’s level one day.

He said: “To be honest I was an Arsenal fan. When you’re young and you choose who to support, if it’s a family thing, it’s a family thing.

“Someone I looked up to was Thierry Henry. His variations of finishing, his movement, the way he dribbles… someone like that has a key impact on me. I would love to be as big as him and maybe even better.”
