According to a report from The Telegraph, Arsenal are prepared to sell one of our former club-record signings for a bargain price this summer.

Arsene Wenger signed Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon in 2017 for a then club-record £46.5 million. (BBC) Almost four years, 192 games and 123 direct goal involvements later, it looks like the Frenchman could leave.

Lacazette will enter the final year of his contract this summer. The 29-year-old has been in brilliant form recently, but Arsenal might decide to move him on at the end of this season due to his age.

An accomplished striker with a proven goal record like Lacazette is worth a good amount of money, even if he has just a year left on his contract. Arsenal were expected to raise some decent cash through his sale, but it looks like that won’t be the case.

The report from The Telegraph claims that Arsenal value Lacazette at just £15 million – the same amount we are reportedly willing to offer Celtic for their French striker, Odsonne Edouard.

The 23-year-old Hoops forward will also enter the final year of his contract this summer. Arsenal want him to replace Lacazette at the Emirates, and if a deal can be agreed, he would be the ideal striker to replace our current number nine.

The Insider’s View:

Just £15 million for Lacazette seems like a very small amount, even if the Frenchman will only have a year left on his contract.

The 29-year-old is Arsenal’s top scorer this season. Sky Sports pundit Stephen Warnock claimed on Sunday that Lacazette was ‘more important than Aubameyang’ in this current Gunners squad. (Read here)

That is a bold statement but if recent form is anything to go by, it’s hard to disagree with him.

If Arsenal really want to sell Lacazette, we should be eyeing for a lot more than £15 million. However, with how poor our selling record has been over the years, it won’t be a surprise to see him go for that fee in a few months time.
