According to Gianluca di Marzio, Arsenal star Hector Bellerin is the prime candidate to replace Tottenham-bound Emerson Royal at Barcelona.

The Brazilian is reportedly very close to joining Spurs. Barca and Tottenham have agreed a £25.7 million fee for Emerson, who is all but certain to complete his move to North London before tonight’s deadline.

Barcelona will need a replacement for Emerson even though they have two players who can play right-back. They are looking at a number of options, but the Arsenal vice-captain is said to be high on their wish list.

Bellerin to Barcelona?

The Spaniard has been at Arsenal for over a decade now and he has been a fine servant. He has worn our colours with pride and has given his all every time he stepped onto the pitch. It didn’t work out at times, but nobody can question his commitment.

However, both Arsenal and Bellerin have reached a stage where the best thing would be to part ways. This transfer window is the perfect time to do that, but the Spaniard is running out of time.

With Emerson’s move set to be completed soon, Barca could well make a move of their own for Bellerin. As things stand, Arsenal will surely accept it as it’s the best thing for all parties involved.

Arsenal need a new right-back

It doesn’t look like Arsenal will be able to bring a new player in before the deadline. However, if there’s even a small chance to sign a new right-back, Edu should do everything he possibly can to get it done.

The Gunners currently have Bellerin, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Calum Chambers and Cedric Soares as options. The first two could end up leaving by the end of the day, while although the latter two are decent, there is room for improvement.

Emerson would’ve been a very good addition and a swap deal with Bellerin could well have been an option considering Barca’s interest. Sadly, he’s on his way to Tottenham, who have had a fantastic transfer window.
