According to The Telegraph, Premier League champions Manchester City could make a late move to sign Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney this summer.

The Scotsman has been at Arsenal since the summer of 2019, when he joined us from Celtic for £25 million (Goal). He has had a torrid time with injuries, but whenever he has played, he has almost always been incredible for us.

Man City could make late move to sign Kieran Tierney from Arsenal

Arsenal snapped up Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City last month. That has left a big void at left-back at the Etihad and Guardiola is desperate to fill that before the window shuts.

City wanted Marc Cucurella, but he has gone to Chelsea. Anderlecht left-back Sergio Gomez, once a target for Arsenal, is about to join them, but the report claims he could be loaned out immediately.

If that happens, City will bring in a new left-back, and they have a number of names on their wish list. Renan Lodi, Raphael Guerreiro and Borna Sosa are reportedly being considered, but a Premier League proven option for them could apparently be Tierney late in the window.

Zinchenko started against Crystal Palace and he didn’t do a lot wrong in that game. The Ukrainian, if he continues his form, could well nail down that position, which means Tierney will have to settle for a spot on the bench more often than not.

That’s probably why City are keeping an eye on him at the moment.

The Insider’s View:

It’s extremely unlikely that Manchester City will make a move for Tierney in the next three weeks. Even if they do, Arsenal should just look at that offer, laugh and throw it in the bin.

Zinchenko is a fantastic player, there’s no doubt about that. He’s a proven winner, is excellent on the ball and fits Mikel Arteta’s system perfectly. However, Tierney is still our first choice.

When the Scotsman is completely fit, we expect him to come straight back into the side. He is definitely among the best left-backs in the Premier League, and he could well be named as our vice-captain soon.

We expect Tierney to stay at Arsenal beyond the end of the summer window no matter what.
