Mohamed Elneny, Thomas Partey and Oleksandr Zinchhenko are all injured at the moment, which is why the Gunners are desperate for a new midfielder before the window shuts in a few hours time.
What sources are now saying about Arsenal’s interest in Danilo
Arsenal’s priority target tonight is Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz. The Brazilian has entered the final year of his contract, and the Gunners are keen to sign him.
The North Londoners reportedly tabled a £20 million bid to sign Luiz earlier today, but that was rejected. The Telegraph report that we went back in with a second offer of £23 million, but Villa turned that down too.
The clock’s ticking and Arsenal don’t have a lot of time left. If a deal for Luiz cannot be agreed, we will have to look elsewhere, and Palmeiras youngster Danilo has been heavily linked over the last few days.
Reports claim that the Gunners even tabled a £20 million bid to sign the talented defensive midfielder, and many fans think he could be an alternative to Luiz if Arsenal can’t convince Villa to let him go.
However, sources from both Arsenal and Danilo have told The Telegraph that the youngster will not be moving to the Emirates before tonight’s transfer deadline. A January move has been regarded as more likely.
Unless Arsenal have a mystery target lined up, it looks like we will either sign Luiz tonight or nobody.
The Gunners were probably not too keen on signing a new midfielder in this window, but following injuries to Elneny, Partey and Zinchenko, Arteta and Edu were left with no choice.
With just a few hours left in the window, Arsenal will have to really push if we want to sign Luiz. The Brazilian would be a fine player for us, but Villa will do everything they can to make things difficult.
As for Danilo, the youngster is not ready to replace someone like Partey at the Emirates. He’s one for the future, and it’s no surprise that Arsenal are not pursuing this deal in this window.
However, a deal could well be done in January.
