Arsenal’s chances of signing Real Madrid winger Rodrygo this summer are increasing every day.
The Gunners are eager to source an upgrade on Gabriel Martinelli, who is now reportedly a target for Bayern Munich.
Rodrygo has been identified as Arsenal’s top target, and potential movement on this front is expected to materialise in the next few weeks, as his position in Xabi Alonso’s plans becomes clearer.
Alonso left Rodrygo on the bench for Los Blancos’ clash with Pachuca at the Club World Cup on Sunday, which has fuelled speculation that a move to the Emirates is on the cards.

Rodrygo’s father has complained to Real Madrid about his son’s situation
Viktor Gyokeres is pushing for a move to Arsenal, and Rodrygo may have to emulate the Swedish striker’s public posturing to secure a move away from the Bernabeu.
The issue for the Gunners is that it’s not yet clear whether the Brazilian is unhappy in the Spanish capital.
That said, the Athletic have revealed that the player’s father, Eric Goes, isn’t satisfied with his son’s situation, and has complained to Real Madrid about it, which unsurprisingly hasn’t gone down well at various levels within the European club.
Goes senior is presumably frustrated about Rodrygo being thrust out to the right-hand side to accommodate Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe, while he’s also been burdened with carrying all the defensive responsibility in this front three.
Despite Goes’ frustration, he has still rejected approaches for his son from Premier League clubs through intermediaries.
Arsenal feel they have a sporting project which would appeal to Rodrygo, as they can offer him regular minutes on the left wing, with the freedom to roam into dangerous areas, a similar role he fulfilled in his two best seasons at the Bernabeu.
The Gunners are prepared to wait until it’s clear what Rodrygo desires, and the player’s father’s antics will no doubt help their pursuit.
While Eric Goes did reject approaches from English clubs, his complaints to Real Madrid are only likely to make the Spanish club more willing to sanction the player’s departure at a lower price, as they look to free themselves from the difficulty of dealing with the star’s father.

Andrea Berta has to complete Rodrygo deal
The stars appear to be aligning for Arsenal to sign Rodrygo.
It’s becoming increasingly clear that Alonso doesn’t view the player as a pivotal part of his plans moving forward, with the Spaniard publicly waxing lyrical about Arda Guler and closing in on the signing of Argentine right winger Franco Mastantuono.
It should become clear to Rodrygo himself that he’s becoming more peripheral at Real Madrid over the coming weeks, and this should prove the catalyst for him to initiate a move to the Emirates.
| Rodrygo’s La Liga Statistics 2024/25 | |
| Appearances | 30 |
| Goals | 6 |
| Assists | 5 |
| Shots per 90 | 2.52 |
| Expected Goals per 90 | 0.19 |
| Key Passes per 90 | 2.29 |
| Successful Take-Ons per 90 | 2.29 |
The pressure is therefore turning to Andrea Berta, who needs to make the deal happen as quickly as possible.
The pathway has opened for the Italian to start pulling the strings and convincing Rodrygo and his camp that Arsenal is the best place for him to ply his trade.
If the finances involved aren’t excessive, then there’s no reason as to why Berta shouldn’t be able to bring the 24-year-old superstar to N5.
