According to a shock report from The Telegraph, Arsenal have enquired about the possibility of signing Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez this summer.
Yep, you heard that right. The mighty Gunners with no European football next season are making incredibly ambitious moves in the transfer market.
Martinez is viewed by many as one of the best strikers in world football. The Argentine was directly involved in 30 goals last season. That helped Inter win their first league title in 11 years, and it is no secret that he’s one of their most important players.
The Nerazzurri are desperate to keep hold of Martinez and have opened talks over a new contract. However, their financial troubles could open the door for an overseas club to come in with a big offer, and that could force Inter to part ways with their star man.
However, it really is hard to believe that Arsenal can sign him.
Can Edu convince Lautaro Martinez to join Arsenal?
Arsenal have multiple hurdles to cross to even get close to signing someone like Martinez.
Firstly, the Argentine will cost a ton of money. 90min recently claimed that an offer of about £70 million may be needed for any club to sign Martinez this summer, which may just be beyond our reach, especially after splashing £50 million on Ben White.
Secondly, there will be a ton of competition for his signature. 90min claimed that Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea are keen to sign Martinez this summer, and all three of them can offer him something that we cannot – Champions League football.
It really is close to impossible for Arsenal to sign Martinez this summer, but stranger things have happened in football. This is arguably our most important transfer window ever and if there ever was a time for our owners to show some ambition, it’s now.

A statement signing like Martinez will certainly send a huge message to the rest of the Premier League. However, the chances of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang regaining his form and scoring 30 goals next season seem more likely than a move for the Inter Milan superstar at this point.
