Jamie Carragher insists that Arsenal still need to sign another striker, despite only just bringing in Viktor Gyokeres last summer.
Arsenal paid £63 million to sign Viktor Gyokeres just under 12 months ago, and despite netting 21 goals, the Swede had a very mixed debut campaign.
Arsenal can only sign Julian Alvarez if one of Viktor Gyokeres or Kai Havertz leaves. Who would you sell?
The striker’s overall performances were heavily scrutinised during the season, although question marks have been raised over Mikel Arteta’s whole attack.
Now, Carragher has been speaking about what must happen at Arsenal during the summer transfer window and signing a new number nine is one of his suggestions.
Jamie Carragher thinks Arsenal need to sign another striker
Jamie Carragher has urged Arsenal to sign another striker and a left winger this summer.
The former Premier League defender thinks that Arsenal still need to massively improve in the attacking areas of the pitch.
Carragher slammed Arteta’s tactical set-up in the Champions League final and could not believe the gulf in quality in possession.
Speaking on The Overlap, Carragher said: “I think you still need a centre forward and a winger. I’ve felt that a year ago, and I still feel the same now.
“Even though you’ve won the Premier League, I still think there are probably areas where you could improve.”
🤔 Which Arsenal players are missing from the UCL Team of the Season?
Gyokeres will not be impressed that, despite his 21 goals this season, the Gunners are already looking to upgrade him.
Berta is confident he can sign Julian Alvarez this summer, and work is already ongoing to bring the Argentine to North London.
Viktor Gyokeres’ performance against PSG was so bad
Gyokeres proved against PSG why Arsenal are, in fact, looking at other strikers, as he was shocking during the final in Budapest.
The Swede’s size means that he should be able to make the ball stick up top for the Gunners, but that just never happened.
Gyokeres completed just six passes in 54 minutes and lost possession on ten occasions during the match.
The 27-year-old remains a useful asset for the Gunners, but upgrading him in the summer is going to be towards taking the next step in the Champions League.
