Arsenal have sanctioned another exit this summer as midfielder Fabio Vieira is set to return to his former club Porto on loan.
Emile Smith Rowe has already left, whilst Eddie Nketiah is in talks with Crystal Palace over a move.
Vieira and Smith Rowe’s exits could leave Arsenal light in midfield, but they are expected to confirm the arrival of Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad, whilst youngster Ethan Nwaneri is now set for a bigger role.
The loan move for Vieira will be critical for his Arsenal future. He has made just five Premier League starts since joining from Porto two years ago, and has fallen further down the pecking order.
Arsenal have now agreed to send the 24-year-old back on loan to Porto, in the hope that he can play regularly and rediscover his best form, and they have gone to extra effort to ensure he succeeds.

Arsenal insert conditional clauses into Fabio Vieira loan contract at Porto
Fabrizio Romano has now reported that Arsenal have inserted performance clauses into Vieira’s loan contract at Porto, to try and ensure that he is given regular game time with the Portuguese giants.
“Understand Arsenal have included the following details into Fabio Vieira’s loan move to FC Porto. Loan fee will be based on objectives/specific conditions to match during the season. PENALTY clauses if Fabio doesn’t play 50% of all the matches,” he posted on X.
This is a good move, as Vieira will be included regularly to avoid paying penalty fees, and if Porto do well, Arsenal will benefit.
Fabio Vieira has to succeed at Porto to save Arsenal future
When Arsenal bought Vieira, it was after an outstanding title-winning campaign at Porto, in which he contributed an astonishing six goals and 14 assists in 15 league starts.
Vieira was still raw when he arrived in North London, and his lack of regular game time has stunted his development.
However, if he can play regularly and hit his best form at Porto, then he may be able to return to the Arsenal squad as a more accomplished player next year. If he does not perform, then it is unlikely that he will have a future at the Emirates Stadium.
