Arsenal are in the process of bidding farewell to Aaron Ramsdale before Deadline Day as Southampton close in on his transfer.

The goalkeeper’s exit has been on the cards since David Raya’s arrival in North London, with speculation over the 26-year-old’s future increasing throughout the summer.

Now, a solution has come to light as Southampton have agreed a deal with Arsenal for the Englishman’s permanent transfer.

At first, it was expected that Mikel Arteta and Edu would have to sanction an initial loan with an option to buy Ramsdale, making Southampton’s offer impossible to refuse.

How much Arsenal will get from Southampton for Aaron Ramsdale

It was reported that the up-front fee that the Saints will pay for the England international will be in the region of £18m.

The figure is expected to rise however, with a potential of £25m being hit subject to conditions.

Now, journalist David Ornstein has provided a breakdown of the finances, with one factor heavily relying on what Russell Martin can achieve at Saints over the 2024/25 campaign.

Ornstein revealed that £1m of the price Arsenal could receive from Southampton for Ramsdale will depend on if the Saints manage to remain in the top flight this season.

£18m will come up front, with an additional £1m dependent on Premier League survival plus a further £6m in incentives.

Arsenal had to accept Southampton’s offer for Ramsdale

In an ideal situation, Arsenal would have cashed in big on Ramsdale, who is an England international and a top-class goalkeeper on his day.

The decisive factor of course is the lack of football that the Englishman has played over the past year, limiting the price that the Gunners can receive from his sale.

On the one hand, there will be regret from the price tag however, there will also be relief that a permanent sale will be completed for both the player and the club’s benefit.

Ramsdale now has the opportunity to get his career back on track at St Mary’s, with Arsenal hoping that the 26-year-old can ensure that his new club survive in the Premier League for the sake of £1m.
