It is no secret that Arsenal are keen to sign Viktor Gyokeres this summer.

The Gunners are expected to have a big transfer window. Andrea Berta has many names on his wish list, and he is likely to make at least one huge signing.

A new striker is what every Arsenal fan is dreaming of, and there isn’t a more prolific centre-forward on the market than Gyokeres.

Arsenal held talks with the Swede’s agent to sign him recently.

Arsenal make offer to sign Viktor Gyokeres during a meeting with his agent

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Viktor Gyokeres over the last few months.

The former Coventry City man has been on fire since joining Sporting CP. He has scored close to 100 goals in two seasons, which is a stunning return.

Andrea Berta is a big fan of Gyokeres, and reports in Portugal have now revealed that a move could be in the works.

CM Journal reveals that Arsenal officials met with the Swede’s agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, when they were in Lisbon for the Women’s Champions League final.

The report claims that, during the meeting, Arsenal offered Gyokeres a five-year contract with a €12 million (£10m) signing-on fee and an annual salary of €7 million (£5.8m).

Along with that, the Gunners are said to have presented a €70 million (£58.7m) offer plus target-based add-ons, which Cetinkaya will now take to the Sporting board for approval.

The report claims that Bayern Munich have also enquired about Gyokeres, but Arsenal are leading the race for his signature, as things stand.

Why Arsenal have waited this long to make an offer

The summer transfer window is still a few weeks away, but many fans are wondering why Arsenal haven’t just wrapped up a deal already.

Liverpool have all but signed Jeremie Frimpong, while Manchester United seem to have a deal in place with Matheus Cunha ahead of a summer move.

The reason Arsenal haven’t done that is because the door was shut until very recently.

Gyokeres told his agent to inform the Gunners and other interested clubs not to make any offers before the Taça de Portugal final against Benfica.

The report now claims that Sporting president Frederico Varandas had refused to hold any meetings until that game was done.

Sporting beat Benfica in the final and won the cup. Gyokeres scored, and Arsenal have since made their move to sign him.
