Arsenal have been linked with a shock move to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United.
The Gunners are on the lookout for options after Mikel Merino suffered a serious foot injury that is going to keep him out of action for an extended period.
Andrea Berta has been exploring the market, and Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg shocked everyone by claiming that Arsenal are in talks to sign Tonali from Newcastle United.
Now, there is a different update.
Sandro Tonali to Arsenal on deadline day – yes or no?
Newcastle United dismiss Sandro Tonali to Arsenal rumour
Tonali is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
The Italian has been incredible for Newcastle United, and it is no surprise that he has been linked with a move to a bigger club.
Arsenal have Martin Zubimendi and Declan Rice as starters in the middle of the park, and both players have done a magnificent job there.
So, even if Tonali comes in, it would only be as a backup, which is why people were perplexed when the links first emerged.

Now, Lee Ryder has revealed what Newcastle United told him about Tonali heading to Arsenal before the window shuts.
He tweeted: “It’s understood that Newcastle United have instantly dismissed any suggestions of Arsenal and Sandro Tonali. No contact whatsoever, I’m told.”
Fellow journalist Luke Edwards also contacted the Magpies. He tweeted: “Newcastle United have described stories claiming Arsenal have made a late attempt to sign midfielder Sandro Tonali as “stupid” and “complete rubbish.”
“But other than that, it’s a good story.”
What is the maximum fee Arsenal should pay to sign Sandro Tonali?
Do Arsenal need Sandro Tonali?
If Tonali was on offer, we’re sure every Arsenal fan would take him.
The former AC Milan man is a fantastic player, and he has even been compared to the great Andrea Pirlo because of his ability in midfield.
However, Arsenal need a backup for Rice and Zubimendi, and there’s no way Tonali would ever agree to a Christian Norgaard-like role.
Even if he does, Newcastle will demand an absolute fortune to sell him, considering that they paid a whopping £55 million themselves to sign him in 2023.
Arsenal don’t need Tonali right now, and we would be shocked if anything came out of this rumour in the coming hours.
