Arsenal are close to completing the signing of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP for £63 million.
The Gunners have been on the hunt for a new number nine for some time now, with Andrea Berta keen on replacing the injured Gabriel Jesus and finding cover and competition for Kai Havertz.
Benjamin Sesko was seriously considered by Arsenal, although RB Leipzig’s excessive asking price for the Slovenian forced the North Londoners to look elsewhere.
Gyokeres is now on the verge of a switch to the Emirates, after Berta opted to aggressively pursue the Swede and finally reached an agreement with Sporting on payment terms earlier this week.

When will Arsenal announce the signing of Viktor Gyokeres?
Gyokeres has reportedly travelled to London to undergo his medical ahead of his move, which is expected to be worth in the region of €73 million (£63 million) in total.
Arsenal beat AC Milan in Singapore on Wednesday, in a game which they’d hoped to have had their prolific new number nine available for.
The Gunners take on Newcastle in the City State on Sunday, before facing Tottenham in Hong Kong next week – games which Arsenal are hopeful Gyokeres could play some part in.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the North London club expect to announce the signing before the end of this week.
“Gyokeres is expected to be given permission to undergo his medical within about 24 hours,” Jacobs told the Market Madness podcast.
“Because the deal’s at the final stage is 63.5 million euros plus 10 million in add-ons, the stumbling block was over the add-ons and it took a bit of time, particularly relating to 2.5 million euros of the add-ons.
“Sporting wanted them to be easier. Arsenal also wanted the payment terms for the fixed fee to be in four. Sporting pushed for two.
“Now they’ve found a compromise. Still waiting for the formal documentation. It’s one of those deals where until the ink is dry, we have to be a little bit cautious.
“He will be an Arsenal player and likely the deal will now be formalised before the week is out.”

When could Viktor Gyokeres make his Arsenal debut?
If Gyokeres completes his medical by the end of Thursday, and then immediately travels to Singapore early on Friday, then Sunday’s game against Newcastle is likely to come too soon for him.
The 27-year-old hasn’t played since May, and thus, will need at least a few training sessions to build up his fitness before he’s able to step foot on the pitch again.
| Viktor Gyokeres’ Primeira Liga Statistics 2024/25 | |
| Appearances | 33 |

| Assists | 7 |
| Shots per 90 | 4.08 |
| Expected Goals per 90 | 0.99 |

If the deal is complete and he’s with Mikel Arteta’s camp by Sunday night, then it’s plausible to suggest that he could feature against Tottenham next Thursday.
However, he may only be ready for a short cameo in that game, with his potential first start coming the following week when Arsenal host Villarreal at the Emirates.
