Why Kingsley Coman rejected Arsene Wenger in 2014 as Arteta reignites Arsenal transfer interest

Arsenal have less than two days to add to their squad before the transfer window closes, and are still in the market for an attacking player.

A forward who can add speed on both wings would be the ideal addition, and Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman has now been linked with a move.

Coman is one of the most decorated players in European football, with 10 league titles to his name, as well as the 2020 Champions League, and the Frenchman scored the winning goal in the final.

The attacker has won trophies at Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Bayern Munich, and would arrive with a lot of pedigree.

This is not the first time Arsenal have been interested in the 28-year-old, as before he moved to Juventus, he almost joined Arsene Wenger’s team 10 years ago.

Kingsley Coman almost joined Arsenal under Arsene Wenger

Wenger was a master at identifying young talents in France, and he wanted to bring Coman to Arsenal in 2014, when he was just a teenager at PSG.

However, Coman moved to Juventus instead, despite a deal to join Arsenal being on the verge of completion, and Wenger later revealed just how close he came to moving to the Emirates.

“Yes we really tried to sign Kingsley Coman in the summer of 2014,” Wenger stated in 2015.

“The transfer was almost completed, but he preferred Juventus.”

Coman moved to Juventus, before ending up at Bayern Munich, but there is now a chance he makes the move he could have completed a decade ago.

Mikel Arteta interested in signing Kingsley Coman at Arsenal

It has now been reported that Mikel Arteta wants to sign Coman in the next two days, to add depth and quality to his attacking line.

Coman has a questionable injury record, and is on a high wage, but if a lower-cost deal, or a loan deal can be agreed, he could be a strong addition this summer.

The France International would provide speed and game-changing quality that is perhaps missing in the Arsenal attack, and was impressive at the Emirates as Arsenal drew with Bayern Munich in the Champions League last season.

If a deal can be agreed, Coman will line up at the Emirates alongside Kai Havertz, who like the Bayern star, has scored the winning goal in a Champions League final.
