Arsenal are looking to strengthen their squad over the coming months when it comes to transfer signings, exits and contract renewals.

Andrea Berta has several issues to deal with in his inbox upon taking the job at the Emirates Stadium, not least with it being a crucial summer transfer window.

While focus may well be on the players who could come and go at Arsenal, the importance of contract talks cannot be understated.

William Saliba, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Magalhaes all have two years of their contract left this summer, putting pressure on discussions over a renewal.

On top of that, there are others who are nearing extensions, with Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly set to sign new deals.

They aren’t the only Hale End academy stars to land that, though, with another youngster landing fresh terms with the Gunners.

Academy goalkeeper Alexei Rojas to sign new contract at Arsenal

With the academy ranks producing some important players for the first team already, Arsenal are looking at those who could follow.

Plenty of outfield stars are looking to make their mark, but there are those in the goalkeeper ranks looking to do the same.

Arsenal have plenty of impressive options for shot-stoppers, including the likes of Tommy Setford, Jack Porter and Lucas Nygaard.

There’s also Alexei Rojas, a 19-year-old goalkeeper who has certainly impressed for both club and country this season.

Having impressed for the Colombian national team at under-20s level, as well as the under-21s at Arsenal, Rojas has landed himself an extended stay at the club.

According to the Standard, Rojas has signed a new professional contract until the summer of 2026, his second deal in nine months.

The report claims that the expectation is that Mikel Arteta will call him up to the senior team more often to be involved in training, which often includes four goalkeepers.

Rojas has been involved at times this season, but could get a more regular appearance at that level.

That move in itself does create two dilemmas for Arsenal to solve when it comes to their goalkeeper ranks this summer, though.

Arsenal face double goalkeeper dilemma this summer

While Rojas is in line for a possible promotion to the senior setup on a more consistent basis, there are questions about the goalkeeping ranks.

While David Raya is the undisputed number-one option for Arteta, the number two position is open with the return of Neto to Bournemouth after his loan.

The first dilemma surrounds whether Arsenal will make a signing there to strengthen their options, with Joan Garcia one name heavily linked.

With that possible arrival, there is then a question over loans for the remaining goalkeepers in the academy ranks.

While Porter is likely to continue rising through the ranks, the likes of Setford or Nygaard could face an exit on loan for the campaign.

The goalkeeper position is one that takes time to grow into, with game time also required to fit the bill well.

For those stars, there may be a dilemma over whether they make such a move this coming summer.
