Report: Arsenal ask Hibs to lower asking price for Doig

Arsenal and West Ham United have asked Hibernian to drop their asking price for Josh Doig.

According to Evening Standard, the Scottish outfit are demanding £5m + add ons for the youngster.

However, the Gunners face mass competition for the 19-year-old with a raft of clubs interested in him.

The north Londoners have already signed one left-back this summer. Nuno Tavares joined the club from Benfica for £6.8m earlier this month. It’s thought the Portuguese defender will be back-up to Kieran Tierney.

Arteta overdoing it by signing more cover for Arsenal amid interest in Doig

Signing a back up left-back was a priority for the Gunners this summer.

The side were punished in the second half of last season after Sead Kolasinac’s departure in January. Tierney got injured soon after which Granit Xhaka was asked to fill in.

However, in Tavares, the team now have an alternative option to the Scotland international. He’s already shown off his quality with a debut goal versus Rangers last weekend.

But, signing another defender for Arsenal would be overkill from Arteta amid interest in Doig.

The youngster would simply get no game time, most likely spending time away from the club on loan.

He’d also block the pathway of many youngsters from the academy, who deserve the chance to impress.
