According to a report from The Athletic, Arsenal have opened talks with Bologna to sign Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.
The 22-year-old has made a fantastic name for himself in Italy over the last two years. He was one of Bologna’s best players last season, and it is no surprise that the Gunners are interested in his services on transfer deadline day.
Arsenal are still on the market looking for a new right-back. With Hector Bellerin set to leave and Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ future up in the air, we need a new player there, and Tomiyasu would be a very good signing.

Arteta is pushing Arsenal to sign Tomiyasu
It is no secret that Arsenal want a new right-back and the report claims that Tomiyasu fits the requirement perfectly, not just in the problem position, but in central defence as well.
The Japanese international, if he joins Arsenal, is set to be used as a hybrid defender by Arteta. He will start as a right-back in a back-four, but he will help build attacks as a part of a back three.

The report claims that the Arsenal boss really likes Tomiyasu and is personally pushing for this deal to happen. With just a few hours left in the window, it will be very interesting to see if this can be done.

Tomiyasu dreamt of Tottenham move
The report claims that Arsenal have kept an eye on Tomiyasu all summer, but his name made the rounds in England when Spurs were heavily linked with him after Fabio Paratici’s arrival.
Fabrizio Romano claimed on Matt Hayes’s YouTube channel last month that the 22-year-old’s ‘dream’ is to join Tottenham. That move looks like it won’t happen now due to the imminent arrival of Emerson Royal, but it’s good news for Arsenal.

Tomiyasu is a fantastic player with bags of potential under his belt. He would solve a big problem Arsenal have at right-back and stealing him from under Tottenham’s noses would just make this deal a whole lot sweeter.
