If there’s one midfielder most Arsenal fans would want Mikel Arteta and Edu to sign this month, it’s Lyon star Bruno Guimaraes.
The Brazilian is one of the best in his position in France at the moment. He has been absolutely incredible for Les Gones since he joined them and Arsenal have been linked with a move for him for a long, long time.
However, despite the fact that we like the look of him, it’s Newcastle who are leading the race to sign Guimaraes this month. So, why aren’t Arsenal battling the Magpies? Goal Brazil have the answer.
Why Arsenal haven’t bid for Bruno Guimaraes yet?
Goal Brazil, as reported by a number of other outlets since this morning, claim that Newcastle have agreed a deal with Lyon to sign Guimaraes before the end of the window on Monday. The Magpies’ offer of £33.5 million was enough to convince the French giants.
The report further claims that Arsenal have been in touch with Guimaraes’ agents since last summer. The Gunners have been keen to sign him for a while, but there’s a reason why we haven’t challenged Newcastle for his signature now.
It has been revealed that Arsenal do not have the money that Lyon are demanding for their star midfielder. That has reportedly cost us the chance of signing the fantastic 23-year-old in this month’s transfer window.
Hard to believe
The January transfer window is a very complicated period to get deals over the line, we all know that. However, it really is hard to believe that a club as big as Arsenal do not have £33.5 million.
What makes this even more unrealistic is the fact that Arsenal were pushing really hard to sign Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina. The Serbian would’ve cost over £60 million and rumours led us to believe that we were prepared to pay that figure.
Guimaraes would only cost about half as much as what Juventus will now reportedly pay for Vlahovic. That makes the rumour that Arsenal cannot afford the Brazilian very hard to believe. But, there has to be a reason why we haven’t made a move for him as he really is a fantastic player.
