There’s good news and bad news for Arsenal in our pursuit of Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic.
That’s according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, who have revealed the latest information they have as Edu and Mikel Arteta continue to push for the Serbian’s signature before the transfer window shuts in nine days time.
Vlahovic has arguably been the best player in Italy this season. The 21-year-old has scored 20 goals and has provided four assists in all competitions, which is truly a phenomenal return, especially for someone of his age.
The latest on Arsenal’s pursuit of Dusan Vlahovic
The good news for Arsenal as we try to sign Vlahovic is that Fiorentina have accepted our bid.
The report claims that La Viola received an offer of £58.5 million from Arsenal for the Serbian and they are happy with that. They have given the green light to the proposal and the Gunners are free to discuss terms with the striker.
The bad news for Arteta and Edu is that Vlahovic has turned down Arsenal’s contract offer. The Gunners reportedly handed him an £8.37 million-a-year contract, which equates to about £161,000-a-week.
That is a great deal for someone who is still only 21, but Vlahovic reportedly prefers to wait until the summer to consider all the offers that are sure to come his way from multiple top clubs across the continent.
Time for the Gunners to move on?
Vlahovic, branded as ‘ridiculous’ by Micah Richards, would be an outstanding signing for us, there’s no denying that. He is one of the best young talents in world football at the moment and he would instantly improve our attack.
However, Arsenal have to draw a line at some point and we are reaching that stage now.
There are just nine days left in the transfer window and we simply have to sign a new striker before the end of this month. Edu is right to do everything he can to sign Vlahovic, but if he doesn’t want to come, we have to look elsewhere.
It will be interesting to see what Arteta and Edu will do in the next few days.
