Arsenal have turned their attention to sign Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak after our move for Dusan Vlahovic proved to be unsuccessful.
It is no secret that the Serbian was our number one target this month. Mikel Arteta and Edu went above and beyond to get Vlahovic in, but his agent just wasn’t prepared to listen to what Arsenal had to say.
Vlahovic is now on the verge of joining Juventus for £62.8 million (Sky Sports). Edu and Arteta need to focus their attention on another striker and Isak is reportedly on top of our wish list now.
Like Vlahovic, Alexander Isak does not want Arsenal move either
Dean Jones spoke to The Football Terrace this week about Isak and he has revealed that the Swede doesn’t fancy a move to Arsenal or any other Premier League side for that matter.
He said: “Alex Isak, I’m told, isn’t actually that interested in joining Arsenal at the moment. Not necessarily just Arsenal, I think he’s a bit cagey about the Premier League generally.
“And if he does come, he wants to be absolutely sure that it’s a good fit for him. Like Vlahovic, he’s sceptical that Arsenal is the right stepping stone for him at this moment in his career.”
The Insider’s View:
It was always a risk going all out on one player. Vlahovic has now said no and we’re left in a really tricky position with just six days left in this month’s transfer window.
Isak would be a great alternative to Vlahovic and Edu is right to try and sign him. However, if he turns down a move to the Emirates too, Arsenal could be left with no choice but to reintegrate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang back into the side or go into the business end of the season with just Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie NKetiah.
That could prove to be really costly in our pursuit of a top-four finish, but that’s the situation we could be in soon – unless Edu works his magic and gets a deal for Isak or Dominic Calvert-Lewin over the line in the next six days.
