Sky Sports revealed a month ago that Arsenal are in talks to sign AC Milan star Hakan Calhanoglu this summer.

The Turk will soon be a free agent and he is a wanted man. Milan are desperate to tie him down to a new contract, but the fact that they haven’t been able to do it has alerted a number of top clubs from across Europe.

Calhanoglu has been around for a long time which makes it surprising for some to know that he is still only 27. He is in the prime of his career, and that could potentially convince a few big clubs to lure him in this summer.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man scored nine goals and provided 12 assists in all competitions for Milan this season. That’s impressive on its own, but when you take a closer look into the number of chances he has created, you will know why Arsenal are considering a move for him.

Calhanoglu is the best chance creator in Europe’s top-five leagues

Calhanoglu has created a staggering 98 chances this season – more than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues. That’s more than Premier League’s top creators Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount, Jack Grealish and even Kevin de Bruyne. (Squawka)

The 27-year-old, once dubbed as the ‘new Mesut Ozil‘, is doing no harm to the former Arsenal man’s legacy. The German was the king of creativity for years at the top level, but it looks like we’ve found an heir to his throne.

Should Arsenal sign Calhanoglu?

It is no secret at this point that Arsenal are on the market for a new number 10. Martin Odegaard is Mikel Arteta’s top target, while Emiliano Buendia is viewed as a backup in case a move for the Norwegian becomes impossible to complete. (The Athletic)

Neither deal will be easy for Arsenal to get over the line this summer. Both players will cost an awful amount of money to bring in, which could tempt the Gunners to lure free-agent Calahanoglu in instead.

The Turk isn’t as big a name as Odegaard, but he is still a very good player. The fact that he will be coming in for free makes this deal even more appealing, but he should only be an option if moves for our primary targets fall through.
