Arsenal are battling for a place in the top four and there’s still a long way to go, but we can’t help but think about changes in shirt numbers for a few of our players.

Thomas Partey revealed this week that the only reason Arsenal gave Emile Smith Rowe the number 10 shirt is because the young Englishman is the cleverest player in the squad.

We definitely have a few other clever players and we think three of them will be given new shirt numbers before the start of next season.

Three Arsenal players who could get new shirt numbers this summer

Aaron Ramsdale:

A lot was said about the Englishman when Arsenal splashed £24 million to sign him last summer. Nobody really believed that he was good enough, but Ramsdale is now one of the best in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old currently dons the number 32 shirt and we cannot imagine that will be the case next season.

Bernd Leno is expected to move on before the start of the next campaign and we fully expect Ramsdale to take over the number one shirt from the German.

Takehiro Tomiyasu:

Arsenal signed the Japan international from Bologna on transfer deadline day last summer and he has been a fantastic signing.

Tomiyasu is currently injured and although Cedric has done a good job at right-back, we can all see the difference in level between the two defenders.

The 23-year-old was given the number 18 shirt when he joined us last year but with Hector Bellerin set to leave on a permanent deal this summer, we believe Tomiyasu will get the number two shirt before the start of next season.

Gabriel Martinelli:

After an injury-hit campaign last season, Martinelli has reminded everyone why he’s one of the best young players in the world.

The Brazilian has been absolutely fantastic for us recently and it’s only a matter of time before he gets a prominent shirt number.

Martinelli currently dons the number 35 shirt, which he was given when he joined us in 2019. We expect the 20-year-old to take over the vacant number 11 jersey this summer.
