Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta confirmed yesterday that the Gunners will have discussions with Real Madrid in the coming weeks to sign Martin Odegaard on a permanent deal.

The Norwegian has been a huge hit in North London since he joined us on loan in January. He has become a fan-favourite at the Emirates, and assists in back-to-back games to end the season has sightly raised his stock as well.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

Arsenal would undoubtedly love to sign Odegaard on a permanent deal this summer. Real Madrid, however, hold all the cards at the moment, and Arteta has stressed that the Norwegian’s future is not in our hands.

The Gunners boss, however, has confirmed that Arsenal will hold talks with the Galacticos in the coming weeks to discuss Odegaard’s future.

Arteta said, as per Arsenal.com: “I don’t know. It’s not in our hands.

“We have a very clear and strong opinion on what we would like to do. He’s not our player. We’ll have discussions in the next few weeks, but first of all we need to respect that he’s a Real Madrid player. We’ll have those communications.

“We’ve tried to make everything that we could to get Martin performing for the team, which I think he’s done, and he has adapted really well to our way of playing and to our football club. Hopefully, we have given him the hope and the feeling that this could be a good place for him.”

Should Arsenal sign Martin Odegaard permanently?

It is evident to all of us that the Norwegian is a perfect fit in Arteta’s system. His creativity is unquestionable, while his work rate is exactly what the Arsenal boss demands from every single one of his players.

Arteta even labelled Odegaard’s work rate as ‘incredible’ after our win over Tottenham in the North London derby earlier this year. (Read here)

The Real Madrid man certainly checks all the boxes and he would be an amazing signing if we can lure him in. However, it will be extremely difficult, especially as we will not be in Europe next season.
