Arsenal know that anything other than a win over Tottenham this weekend is going to be a nightmare for them.

The Gunners threw away a two goal lead at bottom club Wolves in midweek to allow Man City the chance to close the gap.

As it stands, City sit just five points behind Arsenal but have a game in hand.

Furthermore, City also play before Arsenal this week, meaning going into the Spurs game, the Gunners could find themselves just two points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s men.

Indeed, predicting the result of the North London derby, Alan Shearer says it could be a concern for Arsenal.

Alan Shearer says why he’s worried about Arsenal against Tottenham

There is a lot of focus on Tottenham and new manager Igor Tudor.

Tudor is hoping to put a spring in the step of Spurs but with limited resources in terms of his squad, he faces an uphill battle against Mikel Arteta’s troops.

However, Alan Shearer believes that if City beat Newcastle, then the pressure is going to be on the Gunners.

“Arsenal have to win the game. I mean, it’s pretty simple. It would be a disaster if they didn’t, and they’re not in great form, losing a 2-0 lead in the way they did against Wolves, they go into it under huge pressure. It might even be more if City beat Newcastle on Saturday night,” Shearer said.

“But Spurs give me no confidence, even with the new manager bounce, that they would hope that they’re going to get so I’m going to say an Arsenal away win.”

Arsenal have to control what they can

There is an old saying in life that you should only worry about what you can control, and leave everything else to play out.

For Arsenal, this is going to ring true between now and the end of the season.

In a nutshell, if they win all 12 games, they are Premier League champions without having to worry about Man City at all. It sounds simple, but if Arsenal do that, then there’s nothing anyone else can do.

Mikel Arteta will be drumming that message into his players. They can only control their own destiny.

If City beat Newcastle, there is absolutely nothing they can do about it. Likewise City cannot affect Arsenal’s results.

With the season now in crunch time, we’re going to see how serious this Arsenal team are.
