Arsenal battled to a 0-0 draw away at Atalanta in a tough Champions League opener, and one player was the clear hero of the night.
Mikel Arteta’s side endured difficult opposition in Atalanta and were fearing the worst as Thomas Partey gave a penalty away, but goalkeeper David Raya stepped up to save the day with a huge moment.
Atalanta striker Mateo Retegui stepped up to take the penalty, but Raya went down to his right to save the initial effort, before producing a truly world-class stop as the attacker attempted to head in the rebound.
This came after Raya consulted goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana on the touchline just before the penalty, in an eyebrow-raising, but clearly effective moment.
Raya went on to keep a clean sheet, and Arsenal secured a point on the road in one of their toughest games in the Champions League schedule, and it is not the first huge game-saving moment he has had this season.

Raya has conceded just one goal in five games this season, and he has been imperious in the air and at shotstopping, whilst his distribution has also been excellent.
The 29-year-old helped Arsenal win away at Aston Villa with a world-class double save, but his Atalanta heroics might even be better.
On current form, there may be no better goalkeeper anywhere in Europe right now, and Raya has proven all of his critics wrong after enduring a tough start when he arrived at Arsenal last year.
